crystalline/tight/lean/dense games

  • Virtua Tennis

  • Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Demo Disc

    • I DO say the demo disc is way better than the full game(s)
  • Shadow of the Colossus

  • Tetris

  • Demon’s Souls

    • does having to restart count as filler? or is this a case where the filler becomes the content (and the context)
  • Braid is pretty tight (I mean technically tight; not much slack)

  • Bangai-O Spirits (I hear is tight)

  • Minecraft

  • Fortnite

  • Counterstrike

  • Fun: mario kart, goldeneye

    • get friends together and niggle around in a space
  • Pokemon?

  • Chrono Trigger?

    • too narrative? is a 20 minute movie with music and character concept art better than the experience of playing the game? this moght be true of seiken densetsu and FFVI too.

Definitely NOT tight

  • Final Fantasy Anything
    • or all “RPGs” - even trying to fit into this genre necessitates filler and garbage. the best that can be done is to then treat that filler as creative constraint
    • I really like the music, the opera of it. also the character concept art is better than actually playing the game (what does that mean?)

Future

maybe it will become better to summon katamari damacy level at will when you want an experience of “what it’s like to scale” “we scale but we stay the same”. better to play the “demo” with no friction (buying a console, game, sitting through menus, narrative, tutorial)

learn this thing. get better. then stop

DDR, practice hopping around, get a little more advanced and then say thats enough awesome.

MGS has something to say about this. There is a lot to learn to pretend to sneak around different scenarios. Ultimately you stop PLAYING and just MGSV phantom pain was closest to ok here’s a scenario. just go.
