I don’t understand redemption because I don’t understand economics.

Economics involves dropping a net down on some aspects of society. That net never encompasses all of reality (that’s why there are externalities). The daimyo-gashi never got their money back from the poor daimyo, but they were “paid” with monopoly privileges for other activities.

We make games with rules and we play them. But we can always make more games (the new games may incorporate previous externalities) Even our most fundamental physical theories require a constraint on their scope to convey or even consider (imagine a spherical cow)

what happens if US defaults on debt? China?

what happens if I default on my credit card debt? haven’t they already made money in the case of my default? They prepared for this with their high interest rate! But I cannot pay off the credit card debt by offering to babysit AMEX’s kids or with a private tutoring session, or I could, but only if I go through USD as medium of exchange.

WHat did it mean for Shogun to put merchants at the bottom of the social hierarchy? Were the merchants the ones who were the network, the medium? They moved goods and people and ideas around in physical space. They were the internet, the network. What does that mean? What did they do for the whole society and what did the government status do for or against them?

Was “indebtedness” a central psychological or social aspect in Japan?

McLuhan was not concerned primarily with the upsides of the internet. He warned that surrendering to private manipulation would narrow down the availability of the information we receive based on what marketers and advertisers choose for consumers and voters to see. And nowhere is that more evident than in our addictions to social media platforms and our need to be connected 24/7. - https://www.historynewsnetwork.org/article/marshall-mcluhan-the-man-who-predicted-the-interne

did the merchants in tokugawa control the attention of people? were they the marketers and advertisers?

we will all go in on planting seeds of different types, in different places. Not all will succeed, so we will coordinate to spread the risk by sociaizing losses and gains of our farming and husbandry.

What does ownership mean here? in One sense (owning your responsibility, it means paying the price when something doesn’t work out. You own the equity, no one will help you if you lose and no one will hurt you if you win). It’s MINE. the glory and the disgrace.
